The function keys
Are you having trouble with getting your laptop function keys to behave correctly in Minecraft? F3+B, F3, F3+H, etc aren’t working? Did someone tell you, “Just plug in a real keyboard to use those!”? Well, it can be a struggle, but there are solutions. Most laptop keyboards have additional features assigned to the Function keys like, Volume Up, Volume Down, Increase Brightness, Decrease Brightness, Eject and more. These were added because most applications don’t use the Function keys any longer and the laptop makers wanted to use them to give some convenient more commonly used controls to users. But, if you’re a Minecraft player, they are used fairly often. In my case, it’s very rare that I use them for their “added” features. Most of these keyboards have an Fn key near the lower left side that is used for toggling the features of the Function keys.
Typically, if you only need to use a Function key on very rare occasions, you would just hold Fn and press the related Function key to get that key’s behavior. But, you can also toggle the function keys to stay on all the time.
Toggling the function keys on
On many laptop keyboards Fn+Esc Enables or disables Fn function key features. It essentially, LOCKS the function keys on, so that you don’t have to use the Fn key any longer. Press it again to UNLOCK the function keys.
Typical Fn Keys
Examples of different Fn keys. These are used for toggling between the different functions assigned to the Function Keys across the top of the keyboard. They are typically located at the bottom left of the keyboard.
I hope that helps!! Keep Minecrafting!
